It was a moment of great honor and inspiration as Mr. Leonard Akathingo, President and Co-founder of Popya Assistance Foundation (PAF), took the stage at an impactful event in Helao Nafidi, hosted by the One Economy Foundation—a visionary initiative led by former First Lady, Mrs. Monica Geingos.

A Role Model in the Fight Against GBV

Standing alongside a leader we deeply admire, Mr. Akathingo expressed his profound respect and gratitude to Mrs. Geingos, a woman who has tirelessly championed the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and mental health advocacy. Her unwavering dedication to these causes continues to inspire a movement that seeks to uplift, protect, and empower those in need.

Breaking the Silence: “Boys Do Cry”

In his powerful and deeply personal address, titled “Boys Do Cry”, Mr. Akathingo shared his own struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts, highlighting how he turned his pain into a mission of hope and healing. Drawing from his book, “Swallow Your Pride: It’s Normal to Cry as a Man,” he urged men to embrace vulnerability, seek help, and stand together against the stigma that keeps so many suffering in silence.

A Shared Commitment to Change

As a symbol of solidarity and commitment to mental health awareness, Mr. Akathingo personally presented Mrs. Geingos with copies of each of his 13 authored books, reinforcing the shared goal of educating, supporting, and advocating for mental well-being. The exchange was more than just a gesture—it was a powerful alignment of missions to reshape societal attitudes toward mental health, masculinity, and emotional resilience.

PAF: Ensuring No One Suffers in Silence

Through PAF’s ongoing work, Mr. Akathingo and his team remain at the forefront of mental health advocacy, particularly for men and young boys, who are often overlooked in conversations about emotional well-being and GBV prevention.

As the event concluded, one message rang clear: “Change begins when we acknowledge the pain, embrace the healing, and stand together.”

PAF remains steadfast in its mission—because no one should suffer in silence.
